TANZANIA-Centro di accoglienza per bambini” Sisi ni Kesho – Noi siamo il futuro”

Sisi Ni Kesho – We are the future is a project to protect children, Child Protection for newborn children, in serious family situations, malnourished or HIV-infected, at the village of Nyololo, in the Iringa region of Tanzania. The Sisi Ni Kesho Children’s Center welcomes orphaned children of one or both parents, aged between 0 and 5, providing them with the care and assistance necessary for their growth and subsequent reintegration into their family of origin or adoptive families.

Very often parents have died because of HIV, especially mothers, leaving small children dependent on families (already overloaded by the high number of components) who can not cope with the economic burden for the sustenance of additional expenses. Moreover, very often the same orphaned children have contracted the HIV virus through a vertical transmission from the infected mother.

In this region of Tanzania, the spread of HIV in the population is still 40% and represents one of the causes of mortality and contagion during childbirth.

The project was born in 2004 and involves the local population starting from the construction of the Children’s Center, a structure created as a question mark to symbolize the importance for the country, of the future of the new generations. The center is home to around 30 children and it is local social services to identify children with the most serious problems and to arrange entry into the center, always following Tanzanian government regulations. The children accepted follow a specific diet and are constantly monitored by the operators and by the medical staff of the nearby Rural Health Center. In this region of Tanzania, the spread of HIV in the population is still 40% and represents one of the causes of mortality and contagion during childbirth. The Center guarantees antiretroviral treatment to HIV-infected children and constant monitoring of the disease. The service carried out at Sisi Ni Kesho also takes care of the psycho-motor development of the children welcomed: the playroom aims to stimulate the growth and development of motor and cognitive faculties also through a fun and playful approach.

During the period of stay of the children at the SiSi Ni Kesho center, we try to maintain as much as possible a relationship with the families of origin with the aim of reintegrating the child in the extended family context at the age of fifth.

Sisi Ni Kesho – Nous sommes le futur est un projet de protection de l’enfance, destiné aux enfants en conditions difficiles, abandonnés par leur familles d’origine ou séropositifs. Dans les environs du village de Nyololo – district de Mufindi, région de Iringa – le VIH/SIDA est particulièrement répandu et le taux de mortalité très élevé. Donc, il y a beaucoup d’orphelins d’un ou des deux parents, qui sont souvent abandonnés par leur familles d’origine. Ces enfants souffrent de malnutrition, vivent dans des conditions sanitaires déplorables et n’ont pas accès à l’éducation. Le Centre Enfants Sisi Ni Kesho vise à intervenir à cet égard, en assurant assistance médicale pour les enfants de 0 à 5 ans, orphelins ou séropositifs, et la réinsertion dans la famille d’origine – ou dans une famille adoptive – après les premières années de vie.

Le projet est né en 2004 avec la collaboration de la population locale, en réalisant le Centre Enfants, une structure sous la forme de point d’interrogation pour symboliser l’importance des nouvelles générations pour l’avenir du Pays. Le Centre abrite environ 30 enfants, qui sont sélectionnés par les services sociaux locales en accord avec les règlements gouvernementales tanzaniens. Dans le Centre, les enfants suivent un régime alimentaire spécifique et sont constamment monitorés par les opératrices et le personnel médical du Centre de Santé Rural. Dans cette région de la Tanzanie, le VIH est une des principales causes de décès et peut être transmis pendant l’accouchement: pour cette raison, le Centre fournit les traitements antirétroviraux aux enfants atteints de VIH et tous les soins nécessaires. Les services offerts par le Centre Sisi Ni Kesho comprennent aussi une ludothèque, qui a pour but d’assurer aux enfants un développement psychomoteur optimal grâce à un approche ludique et fun.
